NGC5139, Omega Centauri (Centaurus)

Description: Approximately the size of the full moon, this grand globular cluster is difficult to image from most of the US, since it never gets very far above the horizon.  Atmospheric extinction makes the blue channel particularly difficult.
 
Exposure Data: 5/20/2004.  RGB: 6x5m, 6x5m, 6x5m. -10C, 2.65 arc-sec./pixel.
 
Processing: Acquired via Sequencer II and CCDSoft, reduced, aligned and combined in Mira, RGB and DDP in Maxim, curves, levels and other processing in Photoshop.
 
Optical System: FSQ-106 @ F/5, ST-10XME NABG/CFW-8A CCD camera, AstroDon filters, EM-200 mount, dithered 4 pixels, auto focus every two sub-exposures, autoguided.
 
Comments: Average target elevation was 11 in Fort Davis, TX.  The FOV is
1.3 x 1.0
